Ocotober 16, 2001
The president-elect of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), Dr. Ronald M. Atlas, took questions from the public last Thursday, October 11th, during a live, online discussion on washingtonpost.com. Dr. Atlas, who is also co-chair of ASM’s Task Force on Biological Weapons, addressed questions about anthrax, smallpox, and other aspects of bioterrorism. Topics ranged from the strains of anthrax found in the Florida cases to whether the public should purchase gas masks to the difference between biological warfare and bioterrorism.
