The Laboratory Response Network: Helping Laboratories to Prepare for Potential Terrorist Attacks

Conclusion
“Biological weapons have the potential to exact a greater toll than anything we’ve seen in our nation’s history,” said Sen. Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) on introduction of the supplemental appropriations legislation to increase spending on the public health infrastructure. “The best way to protect Americans from these threats is to enhance our preparedness at the national, state, and local levels.” The Laboratory Response Network is a step toward increasing preparedness on all of these levels.

For additional information on the Laboratory Response Network and steps the laboratory community is taking to become better prepared for a bioterrorist attack, see the Clinical Laboratory News article “Is Your Lab Ready to Face Anthrax? Clinical Labs Craft Regional Response to Bioterrorism,” reprinted with permission here.
